A government official reached out to us expressing interest
in replacing an existing manhole cover on a hospital property. The replacement aimed at two main goals: a lighter cover, and a clear label.
The current cover was designed to withstand
vehicle traffic and weighed in at about 300 LBS. Since the cover is off the roadway and the chance of vehicle traffic is slim to none, there was no need for the extra heavy cover. Lifting it to access the underground utilities was cumbersome and often required the help of a machine. A lighter weight alternative was requested to avoid the hassle of the heavy cover, which would allow quick access for maintenance workers.
Another request included the addition
of a “COMMUNICATIONS” ID Tag to clearly label the utilities below. Manhole cover ID Tags are extremely helpful to workers and reduce confusion or delays during time sensitive response situations. The communications utilities in this particular manhole are accessed relatively often and require easy access when a quick fix is needed.
