It’s not uncommon to incorrectly measure the manhole. Often, people measure the external dimensions, which will provide you with an inaccurate measurement. Instead, measure the internal dimensions. For round manholes, measure the diameter of the circle to get an accurate measurement. If the manhole is square or rectangular, you will need to measure both length and width.
For the most accurate measurement, the edge thickness of the cover must also be provided. When measuring, give a slightly smaller measurement to allow for clearance; the cover won’t fit if the diameter is too large.
