with Manhole Covers Direct to install a custom steel manhole cover on a residential driveway—ensuring safe, reliable access to a water pump while maintaining a clean, finished surface.
A construction contractor in need of
a custom manhole cover reached out to Manhole Covers Direct (MCD) with specific requirements for a residential project. The request was for a rectangular steel manhole cover, rated for foot and light vehicle traffic, to be installed on a residential property where access to a water pump was critical.
The contractor emphasized the importance of
of accessibility, as the water pump located inside the manhole would need occasional servicing—and possibly removal. Once MCD received the precise specifications, our team got to work designing a custom steel frame that would securely fit the opening surrounding the pump while ensuring full coverage and safety.
To enhance usability, we incorporated
a custom-built handle at the center of the manhole cover. This thoughtful feature allows the homeowner or service technicians to easily lift the cover and access the pump below, without the need for additional tools.
After the manhole cover was received,
the contractor installed the frame and cover, then proceeded with paving the residential driveway to bring the asphalt level with the manhole surface. Once the pavement settled, the homeowners were extremely pleased—the manhole cover not only looked professional and flush with the driveway but also made pump maintenance significantly more convenient.
