for one cautious grandfather.  As his grandson began to walk, concern arose that the drain might cause the little boy to trip and fall in the open hole and get hurt. He started shopping for a rectangular, foot traffic rated drain cover that would create a safe floor surface. In order for the cover to fit nicely into the irregular surface depths of the concrete, a drop in collar was chosen to hold the cover centered in the hole which would prevent it from wobbling or moving around.

to reduce radiating heat from warming the cover and also because the stainless material would better withstand wear and tear over time. While the lip of the drop in collar would not allow the cover to sit entirely flush with the ground surface, a slim material was selected to reduce the lip as much as possible. 

While the slot sizes needed to be large enough to serve the proper function for drainage and ease of removal for cleaning, in the case of running barefoot they would also need to be small enough so that no one’s little toes would get caught while playing.

the homeowner reviewed his final drawing and within a few days, gave the go-ahead for fabrication. When the fabrication process was complete, the cover was delivered and installed with ease. This grandfather was extremely happy with the function and safety of his new drain cover, and eager for carefree play time to resume. Now it’s time to go shoot some hoops!
